Many smokers have switched to using electronic cigarettes. Vaping enables them to experience the habit but with less risk to some health problems linked to smoking. Some experts, however, claim that these devices aren't the best alternative to the habit because many of them still use nicotine as an ingredient. But the smoke from tobacco is more dangerous than nicotine. A few of the reasons why it is so can be found below.

Why many people are getting hooked to smoking is because of nicotine. This substance can be quite addicting. When smokers try to ditch the habit, they find that it's hard to do so because of it. According to health experts, it can increase the blood pressure as it makes the heart work harder. Likewise, it can also cause rapid, shallow breathing.

However, it's not just this substance why cigarette smoking is said to put the smoker at risk of developing certain diseases. What's more dangerous than that is the tobacco content of each stick. When it's burned, it produces smoke which may be considered as poison. That's not surprising because, according to scientific investigations, there are greater than 4000 chemicals found in this smoke.

Each time a smoker takes a puff, that's how many chemicals get pumped into his or her lungs. One of them is nicotine. But many of the rest of these chemicals can produce further harm than this addicting substance. Some of them include ammonia, formaldehyde, carbon monoxide, hydrogen cyanide, tar, benzene, acetone, polonium 210, toluene, nickel, cadmium and arsenic.

The circulatory system can be affected by many of these chemicals. Some of them include peripheral vascular diseases, coronary heart diseases, stroke and heart attack. Studies have concluded that a smoker is at risk for heart attack 5 times more than a non-smoker. The arteries can get narrower too and the capacity of blood to carry oxygen is reduced significantly.

The respiratory system is also in danger for developing certain problems. Often, someone who smokes end up with persistent coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath. Emphysema and chronic bronchitis are two diseases which can cause these symptoms. Because of secondhand smoke, even non-smokers are at risk for these.

It is said that at least 50 of all those over 4000 chemicals are carcinogens or substances that are said to trigger cancer formation. The kinds of cancer a smoker is likely to develop include oral, laryngeal, esophageal, stomach, pancreatic, kidney, uterine and cervical. Of course cancer of the lungs is another. Studies have concluded that more than 80 percent of lung cancer incidences are due to smoking cigarettes.

The smoke from tobacco is more dangerous than nicotine, and the reasons as to why are found above. While it's true that some electronic cigarettes still contain nicotine, the user's risk for developing certain diseases is reduced. When the device is activated, it appears as though it's emitting smoke. But the fact is it's just water vapor. If you like to skip the addicting substance, you may simply go for cartridges which contain none of it.
