When it comes to serving the customers in a resort or restaurant and other types of workplace, the chef should always be wearing well-chosen uniforms.

Many of the chefs tend to choose a traditional gear when they look for a professional attire. The usual chef's apparel would have a double-breasted jacket, checkered pants, a hat and coat. Since being a chef now has become more glamorous, there is a great transformation in the dress code of the chefs. But, the transitional phase still continues. There are now lots of fashion designers who are creating on chef gears in order to come up with more fashion forward attires.

The fabric used for this uniform is thick cotton and this is to protect the chef from the extreme heat that he or she would deal with in the kitchen. The very popular part for the whole outfit is the chef's coat and one should wear this even if the other accessories won't be used. A professional appearance is what it gives to the chef and it also adds some touch of comfort to the uniform. This is also called the executive coat and some coats come with 10 or 12 buttons. The coat comes with a thermometer pocket which is very important to the profession.

There is also a special significance of the chef's pants in the chef's apparel. In the past, the pants would have checkered cloth so that dirt and stains won't be too obvious. But now, what most chefs prefer are the kitchen cargo pants or the baggy pants. The design of these pants are generally loose so that it the wearer will always feel comfortable about moving. The stripes and checks are the most favored options by the chefs.

The hat is required to be worn by a chef as this completes chef's uniform. Previously, the hat was known to be the chefs' status symbol. The chef's hat comes with a really important role not just for the chef but for the individuals who would be eating the cooked food. To keep the chef cool and comfortable, the hats are designed with a mesh top to permit air circulation. Also, there is a covering so that hair would be prevented from falling.

Chef's apparel should be worn by the chefs in order to provide a professional look; but besides that, to show that the food served is clean and safe for eating.
