The viability of your firewood all relies heavily on where you store it. The ground is not the ideal place for you to store your wood. A firewood rack will bring to you many more benefits instead.

First and foremost, if you want to season your wood, firewood racks are perfect because they will ensure proper circulation of air. Firewood racks will allow for portable usage and you will be able to keep choosing where to store your wood. Vermin and insects will also not attack your wood as when you store it on the ground.

Wood seasoning can be described as the drying out of wood. When it is done the wood will produce less smoke when burning but also produce more heat. The wood will be lighter to carry and will also have a longer shelf life.

The disadvantage of storing your firewood on the ground is that it will not season well because it is not aerated. When on the ground the firewood will also begin to absorb moisture from the ground thus ruining its quality. The firewood rack will also add protection from weather elements thanks to its vinyl cover.

Vermin like mice and snakes will also begin to infest your home if you store wood on the ground instead of on a firewood rack. If the wood is very fresh you will begin to face problems from termites and other insects.

This is why it is recommended to store your wood 25 feet away from any of your major structures and the portability of the firewood racks allows for just that. You will also not have a problem transporting the wood to the fireplace when needed.

The firewood has to remain at quite a distance because should it be infected by termites, they can spread to your major structures.

Having firewood racks therefore gives you all these benefits of air circulation when seasoning, protection from harsh weather and vermin. Being portable will also prove to be a major advantage.
