The presence of heavy gear, heavy building materials, pits, combustible substances and other elements at work sites create hazards that most of us don't face in our daily lives. Throw the chance of collisions into the mix, and the danger rises. Preventing accidents has to be a priority. Driver feedback signs can help.

When many individuals think about the need to slow traffic, they probably think about town streets and freeways where speeders are common. The necessity for slower traffic thru school zones and work sectors is obvious, as well. But even in areas where traffic usually travels much slower there is often a need for better traffic control.

Few people may think of a forklift as a deadly vehicle because of excessive speed. But one operated incorrectly, too swiftly for the load it's carrying, or too quickly in a zone where a slower speed is required, can be a real safety problem. Not only is there the capability for a forklift to overturn if it is traveling too swiftly with a heavy load or a load held too high, it can run into other machines, people and shelves in a warehouse.

Good forklift operator training with stress on safety is important, but even then speeds can become excessive out of familiarity with the job or distraction. A sign that shows drivers their speed can help slow them down and stop those types of accidents.

Forklifts are one specific potential problem, but anywhere there are vehicles, the potential for accidents exists. Automobiles combined with heavy apparatus and trucks hauling volatile or threatening substances are a blueprint for a screw up under the right circumstances. Slower traffic, whether on roads in and around the work-area or across big, open spaces, makes the whole area safer. Combine good education with good traffic techniques for the best results.
