Both sexes are known to have excelled in tennis. Tennis can be played as a pair or alone. You could also get the Grand Slam in an individual game. Alternatively, you could play the doubles, which is playing in pairs. If you were to wonder who is the best tennis player, you would come up with the names of Steffi Graf, Martina Navratilova, Margaret Court, Ilie Nastaste, Aurthur Ashe, Roger Taylor Manuel Orantes, Rod Laver, Pete Sampras and Roger Federer. However, to point out the one and say that this is the greatest tennis player of all time is a very demanding job. Therefore, we should just discuss how each one differs from the others. For example, Iles Nastaste maintained the glory of tennis in Spain and took great pleasure playing the role of an extraordinary showman. As a result, he became the most worshipped player of Spanish tennis.

Arthur Ashe, being an African American, was forced to face a lot of racism from the Americans. At that time, black people were not free to use dressing rooms of some clubs in the country. However, he was not to be discouraged. He trained hard and his skills on the court elevated him to the highest rungs of tennis in his country.

Classifying by the Grand Slam victories, one can say that Rod Laver is the best tennis player. He got 4 Grand Slams in a year twice, in 1962 and 1969. He was known for his shots, and he could face any situation with the most brilliant return.

Let's take a look at the players of the past. The first one to come to your mind would be Lew Hoad, who would always aim at succeeding with the least effort and the smallest score. He was known for his sledging hits. Next in contention is the unbeatable Pancho Gonzales, a man who rarely lost. However, if he did, he would leave the court with confidence that he would surely win the next game.

The fact that Pete Sampras and Roger Federer rate among the greatest tennis players endowed with flawless manners, when on the court or off it, is inquestionable. Roger Federer has 16 Grand Slams wins and Sampras has 14 wins to his credit.

Considering women, we we can come up with Margaret Court, Martina Navratilova and Steffi Graff. All of them are professionals. Their play is relentless and they provided top-level shows for their fans. Fluid moves combined with sharp play marks Maria Ester Bueno from Brazil. She is the most classy player to grace the tennis courts. Moreover, she has charmed the public with her beauty. To this list, you could also add Roger Federer. Steffi Graf is a very graceful loser. She tops the list of best tennis players. Even her losses attributed to ill health are acknowledged by her with grace.

A number of tennis tournaments are organized yearly. There is the Australian Open, the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open. In tennis, the players get classified in according to the way they perform at the game and by the number of wins that they get. This is a list that is announced to the media later.

The ranking system itself does not really give you a yardstick about the player's skill. It depends on the number of matches that have been played and how many years of experience he has. If you retire early, then your ranking will be far below. If you have played for many years, your ranking will top the list. Therefore, it is not true to imagine that the list will reveal the competences of a tennis player. Every player has a style of his or her own. Classifying the players only by the rankings is not adequate. Consequently, choosing the best tennis player of all time with the ranking system will be unbalanced.
