Buying a home in Autauga County

Autauga County, Alabama has a somewhat unusual history in that it actually predates Alabama statehood, having been established in 1818 (a year before statehood). The county once included what are now Chilton and Elmore Counties, but it is still one of the larger and more populous counties in the state.

The county is named from the native Indian word "Atagi" which translates to "Pearl Water Creek". This shows that there was once a water creek in the area. The county is strategically located at the center of Alabama. The 2010 census recorded its population as 54,571 people. Its economy depends on wool and cotton of which it ranks one of the South's highest producers. The city of Prattville, named after its founder the industrialist Daniel Pratt, is the seat of the county. Daniel Pratt lived from 1799 to 1873. His ventures led to the industrial development in Alabama. Jefferson County's Pratt City was also named after him.

Its size of 604.45 square miles makes it a sensible location for venture by prospective homebuyers and REO enthusiasts. The central position in the state means that it is ideal for property investments. RealtyStore.com indicates that it presently offers 38 foreclosures listings mostly in Prattville. This city has other significant advantages. It is the county's biggest city and has a high resident population of around 33,000 people. Other REO properties being sold are available in Billingsley, Autaugaville, Marbury and Deatsville. Others are located in the county's unincorporated residential areas.

The county's location in the central portion of the state makes Prattville and other cities and towns in Autauga County an easy commute to Montgomery, which has made the county increasingly attractive to professionals who prefer living slightly outside of the city.

Autauga is among Alabama's fastest developing counties. Its median family income is $48,458. Family visits are enjoyable at its many lovely Parks including Overlook Memorial Park, Cooters Pond Park, Heritage Park, Pratt Park and Wilderness Park. The Roberta Case Pine Hill Preserve nature conservancy protects the Alabama canebrake pitcher which is an endangered plant. There are many outdoor activities to enjoy at the park including camping and boating.

Buying a Home in Elmore County

Elmore County is a rapidly expanding county in Alabama. The 2010 census registered its inhabitants as 79,303, representing a 20% rise from the figure of the 2000 census. It registered a median household earning of $50,194 in 2009.

Many home buyers looking for cheap homes easily find the county's foreclosure listings. RealtyStore.com, for instance, has 99 foreclosure listings for REO properties in the county.

The economy of Elmore County depends on a variety of manufacturing investments. The county produces shelving systems, electronics components, fiberglass, yarns, automotive parts and components for assembly lines in the manufacture of other goods. Its proximity to Alabama state capital of Montgomery offers its residents more job opportunities and urban amenities.

Lake Jordan and Lake Martin are the appealing features of the county. Lake Jordan lies in Western Elmore along Coosa River. The larger Lake Martin lies in the county's northeast area along Tallapoosa River. Part of Lake Martin covers a portion of Tallapoosa County.
