Do you feel overcome with all the current negative content that fills the daily news and blogs? It's nerve wracking to pay attention to the persistent bad news about our finances, natural resources and environment. But we all have the capability to pitch in and make the world right and we can easily do it without losing ourselves.

Each person can do things that will lower the consumption of resources and minimize the risk of over filling our landfills. You can reduce electricity by using mirrors to effectively disperse light across a room. Mirrors can also be used to help plants and flowers to thrive in the home. Mirrors will help make a room larger and provide enhanced lighting.

You can make the clothes dryer run more efficiently by fluffing your wet and tangled washing beforehand. You should not need to use the hot setting since they often shrink your clothes. You can install a dryer vent converter rather than having the hot air leave your home. You can use this during the cold winter months so the hot air can easily help heat your home. You will be able to save some money on your heating system bill and take advantage of what would otherwise be wasted energy. It may not do so well if the air in your vicinity is moist. If your home uses wood heat or has dry static air, the damp dryer air can actually be useful. But if your windows have a tendency to frost up or sweat, then you shouldn't use the dryer's air.

If you use liquid fabric softener and a reusable cloth for static control, there is no reason to use disposable dryer sheets. Soak one tablespoon of liquid softener into the rag and throw it in the clothes dryer. Every so often you should wash the rag along with your load. If many people do this, the quantity of dryer sheets and packaging could be greatly reduced. You'll be surprised at exactly what you can do around the house that can save you money and cut down on waste. A simple example would be to use the cover of a peanut butter jar as a drip dish for a potted plant. Usually, the right size cover is available for any plant, and they can easily be washed in the dishwasher. Another thing that could be utilized for this is a foil food tray.

Plastic containers that store such things as fresh herbs can be used for storing vegetables as long as the seal is air tight. Imagine the amount of little things that you can find around your home, or even your office, that can be used to save some money. Before you throw anything aside, check to see if it can be used for something, first.
